2015 Year End Newsletter
WOW! WOW! WOW! Overall, what a great year 2015 was for Hawks, Honkers & Hoots! As with life, there are both good and difficult events that happen over the course of a year, but the good things by far outnumbered the tough ones. The challenges have made us better and stronger as we will continue to share our love and passion for our birds!
We’ll start with the tough stuff and end on a good note as 2016 is shaping up to be another fantastic year for us. In May we lost two of our precious bird ambassadors. I cannot express the sorrow we experienced and still do over their loss. “Clicky”, our Western Screech Owl was lost to what may have been an unknown heart condition. He was our “Steady Eddie”, racking up the most presentations of any bird for HH&H in the three years he was with us. “Clicky” was always a crowd favorite, especially when he’d eat mealworms in front of audiences. “Hover, our American Kestrel, one of our newest ambassadors passed away for unknown reasons. He was a handsome fellow that won people over by his pure stately beauty. We were so blessed to have both of them as a part of our success; they will be truly missed each and every day.
We embarked on a busy 2015 right out of the starting gate and it didn’t slow down for us. We visited schools, retirement communities, libraries, festivals, birding clubs, a winery and were even featured on the news five times! We met a lot of wonderful new people and kept close contact with our faithful supporters throughout the year. We enjoyed the success of our 3rd Annual Wings & Wine Fundraiser and are already making plans for the one in 2016. We currently have confirmed 12 presentations for 2016 and we’re just a week into the year!
In November of 2014 we embarked on the adoption of an Osprey. Ospreys aren’t known for their willingness to be tamed down for educational purposes but Phoenix has blazed a new trail! She has been a crowd favorite, especially since many folks have never seen an Osprey up close. We were able to adopt an American Kestrel who is currently in training and are waiting for approval from USFWS for another owl that we already have. All of these new Ambassadors are very exciting for us, we can’t wait for you to meet them at one of our presentations.
We truly appreciate all that you do in support of Hawks, Honkers & Hoots, we look forward to seeing and hearing from you throughout 2016.
